Facetime on Windows PC? Try this Alternative Method

August 4, 2020 By Abhishek Leave a Comment

If you’ve switched to Windows from Mac, then you are going to miss a lot of Mac-specific apps. One of them is FaceTime. FaceTime is an extremely popular video calling app that is only available for devices in the Apple ecosystem, but that does not mean that you can’t use it if you want to use Windows. This has become extremely important because of the recent pandemic since a lot of people are working from home. If you are looking for FaceTime for PC, then you are in the right place.

In this article, we are going to take a look at what you can do to get FaceTime for PC, should you actually go through with it, and FaceTime alternatives for Windows. Let’s get started.

Is FaceTime Available For PC (Windows 10)?

Facetime for Windows PC

FaceTime is a proprietary app that is only available to iOS, iPadOS and macOS users and I don’t think it will come to any other devices outside the Apple ecosystem. However, there are ways to get around this.

You can use Facetime alternatives that are available for the PC. This is the option that most people should go with because it won’t cause unnecessary headaches down the line.

You can install macOS on your PC and turn it into a Hackintosh computer, but that’s a lot of work for just installing one app. There can be a lot of issues too, so I don’t want to recommend that to our readers. A virtual machine is another alternative to the Hackintosh, but it’s also going to take a toll on the system’s performance. A virtual machine is basically an emulator that emulates a Mac on your PC and it will slow your system down to a crawl. Again, that’s a lot of sacrifices for a single app and that’s why I recommend using a FaceTime alternative.

Facetime Alternatives for PC

We listed the best alternatives for facetime. Using the below apps you can enjoy all features that Facetime has. So what are we waiting for? Lets get started…

1. Skype

Skype is quite possibly, the most popular video calling app on this list. You can use it to talk to anyone from around the world. you can do group chats, participate in online classes and much more. Skype also lets you blur your background while on call, which is extremely useful and the focus will fall completely on the speaker. If you want to work or participate in classes from home, then this is a really good alternative to Facetime for PC.

You can download and install Skype for free and it’s available for a lot of OS’. It’s available on Microsoft’s website or you can just click on this link to download it.

2. Viber

Viber is another FaceTime alternative for PC. It lets you message other Viber users and have video calls with them. You can make HD quality calls and then switch to a video call instantly. You get end-to-end encryption on your messages too. However, this is not a standalone app like Skype. Viber for desktop has to be linked to your mobile account, so you are going to have to download and install this app on your phone first.

Viber is available for free and you can check out more of its features here.

3. Hangouts

Hangouts is admittedly, not as successful as other Google apps, but it is a pretty good voice call app. Now, you don’t even have to download Hangouts to make it work. If you have Chrome installed on your PC, then you can just add the Hangout extension to make a video call. You can create groups with a lot of people and easily create a group video chat with just a few clicks.

You can add this extension to the Chrome browser by clicking on this link.

4. imo

imo is another app that is similar to Viber. It allows you to send messages to other imo users but more importantly, it will let you make HD video and phone calls. You can easily coordinate your work with your co-workers and unlike Facetime, it’s not limited by any OS.

You can download imo for PC by clicking on this link.

5. Messenger for Windows

Facebook is not as popular as it used to be, but it’s still used by millions of people. The messenger app can be used to send messages, media files and make video calls. Making a video call on the Messenger app is pretty easy and you can start a group video chat within a minute. All you need for it to work is a Facebook account.

You can download Messenger from the Microsoft Store or you can just click on this link.

Final Take

If you were looking for FaceTime for PC, then this is it. I hope that this article helped you out and you found the apps to be just as useful as FaceTime. You may be wondering why I omitted apps like WhatsApp. I had to omit them because they don’t have video calling features on the desktop version and using an emulator to just use one mobile app seems unnecessary.

If you have any doubts or suggestions, then please let me know in the comments section down below and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Cheers!
