“Why is my iPhone stuck on Apple logo?” is a question we’ve seen too many times. There are forums with a ton of people having the same complaint about their iOS devices. If you are one of the people facing this issue, then you’ve come to the right place.
We are going to take a look at why your iPhone gets stuck on the Apple logo and how to get it fixed. Most people would just take it to the Genius bar but let’s see if you can solve this on your own first. Let’s jump into it.
Why is My iPhone Stuck On Apple Logo?
There are a lot of things that can cause this issue. The phone gets stuck here because something went wrong during startup. It’s usually a software issue as and not a hardware one. The problem can be caused by:
- Jailbreaking: If you jailbreak your phone, then you can run into issues sometimes. If something went wrong during the jailbreaking process, then your device can get stuck on startup.
- Software Updates: Software updates are supposed to bring new and improved features to your phone, but they can mess up sometimes. If something goes wrong while the phone updates itself, you’ll see the unending logo screen on startup.
These issues can be solved since they are software issues. But the underlying hardware can also malfunction and mess your phone up. Hardware issues have to be taken to a professional since you might not have the tools to fix it.
How to Fix iPhone Stuck on Apple Logo?
Since there are multiple things that can cause this issue, there are also multiple methods. We would recommend that you try them one-by-one so that you can be sure what went wrong. Let’s get started.
Method 1: Force Restart to Fix your iPhone Stuck on Apple Logo
Force restart has been the best way to solve a lot of minor issues for iPhones. However, there is a good chance that this method will not work. Why? Because this specific problem is much deeper and it isn’t going to resolve itself by a reboot. It does not hurt to try since this method is simple and you won’t lose any data.
There are different methods to force restart your iPhone, depending on your model. Just remember that the Side button is the Power button.
- For iPhone 8 and newer: Quickly press and release the Volume Up button. Then, do the same for the Volume Down button. Next, press and hold the Side button until the device boots up and you see the Apple logo.
- For iPhone 7 and 7 Plus: Press and hold the Side button and the Volume Down button simultaneously until the device boots up and you see the Apple logo.
- For iPhone 6, 6s and older: Press and hold the Home and Side buttons together until you see the Apple logo.
After the force restart, charge the device for half an hour and see if the device boots up normally.
Method 2: From Recovery Mode
The Force reset probably didn’t work, but don’t worry. You can always restore your iPhone using the recovery mode. This method was made for general users to fix their iPhones in case you’ve run into problems like the aforementioned iPhone stuck on Apple logo. This will restore iOS to its latest version and it’s pretty easy to do.
- Make sure your drivers and iTunes are up to date and that your USB port and cables are working as intended. Also, make sure you have a fast and stable Internet connection since the download will cancel itself and you’ll have to start the process all over again.
- Connect your iPhone to the computer via a lightning cable. Open iTunes or Finder(if you’re using Catalina 10.15 or above). Find your device.
- Force reset your device until you see a recovery mode screen(pictured below) instead of the usual Apple logo. If the Apple logo pops up, something went wrong and you will have to start over from step 2.
- You’ll get a prompt saying that your iPhone has run into problems. Hit Update.
- The software will be downloaded and installed on your phone. If it fails, repeat from step 2.
Method 3: From DFU Mode
Device Firmware Update(DFU) wasn’t meant for general use and should only be used if the iPhone is still stuck on the Apple logo after method 2. Note that your iPhone doesn’t have to be switched off here. Just follow these methods carefully.
To enter DFU mode on iPhone 8 and newer models:
- Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes, drivers and a fast Internet connection.
- Connect your iPhone using the lightning cable and open up iTunes.
- Quickly press and release the Volume Up button. Then, do the same for the Volume Down button. Press and hold the Side button until the screen turns off.
- Immediately after the screen turns off, hold the press and hold the Volume Down button along with the Side button and start counting till 5.
- After you reach 5, release the Side button while still pressing the Volume Down button. Do this until the computer recognizes that your device is in Recovery mode. Immediately release the Volume Down button.
- Hit Restore and your firmware will be reloaded.
To enter DFU mode on iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 6s, and older models:
- Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes, drivers and a fast Internet connection.
- Connect your iPhone using the lightning cable and open up iTunes.
- For iPhone 6, 6s, and earlier, press and hold the Side button and the Home button together for exactly 8 seconds. For 7 and 7 Plus, press and hold the Side and the Volume Down button for 8 seconds.
- Immediately release the Side button on the 6s and older devices while still pressing the Home button. For the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, let go of the Side button while still pressing the Volume Down button.
- When the iPhone is detected in iTunes with the message “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode”, let go of the buttons and you’ve successfully entered DFU mode.
- Press Restore to complete the process.
When the device is in DFU mode, there won’t be anything visible on the iPhone’s screen. If you see a recovery mode logo or an Apple logo, start over from step 2.
Method 4: Genius Bar
The aforementioned methods should’ve worked if your issue was software related. If your iPhone is still stuck on the Apple logo, then you’re dealing with malfunctioning hardware.
