Why There Is No Sound on iPad?

Some users have reported that the sound stopped completely. Some users say that the sound only disappears while they are on certain apps and some claim that the voice is muffled. These issues can be related to a user, software, or hardware error.

Software errors include bugs in the operating system or apps. They are annoying, but they can be fixed easily. User error can also be a factor here. If you accidentally turned the volume off, then it might appear that there is no sound on iPad. Hardware errors are a little harder to fix. It might be a result of a nasty fall or liquid damage.

How to Fix No Sound on iPad?

I have compiled a few methods that you can use to fix this issue. These fixes might just save you some time and money, so try them all out one-by-one.

1. Check the Silent Mode

First thing’s first. Make sure that the device is not muted. It may seem obvious, but it’s always a good idea to check. Open up the Control Center by swiping down from the top-right edge of the screen. If you have an older iPad, then you can open it up by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.

If the ringer icon looks like this:

Then that means that the silent mode was on. Tap on it to turn it off and check if the sound works or not.

If you have an older iPad, then check the ringer switch and check whether the silent mode is on or not.

2. Turn Off “Do Not Disturb”

The “Do Not Disturb” mode will silence all notifications, calls, vibrations, and apps. If your iPad has no sound, then you should check if this setting is turned on or not. You will be able to see a crescent moon symbol on the status bar. To turn it off, you can open up the Control Center and tap on the moon icon.

3. Check the Speakers and Ports

The iPad offers mobility and can be carried in bags, but its speakers can get clogged with lint and dirt over time. if your iPad has muffled or no sound, then check the speakers for dirt. You can clean it out with a Q-tip.

You should also check and clean the charging port and the headphone jack (if you have an older iPad). These can get clogged and throw all sorts of errors.

4. Restart Your iPad

A bug in the software can cause this issue and restarting your iPad can help sometimes. A restart can flush out glitches and that’s why it should be one of the first things that you try.

To restart an iPad without the home button, all you have to do is press the top button and either of the volume button until the slider appears. Drag the slider and restart your iPad.

To restart an iPad with the home button, you can simply press the top button until the slider appears. Drag the slider and restart your iPad.

5. Restart Mono Audio

This seems to be a bug in the iPad. Toggling mono audio on and off has fixed the no sound issue on the iPad for some users. To do this, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open up Settings on your iPad.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Accessibility.
  4. Toggle Mono audio on and off. Check whether the sounds are working now.

6. Check the App Settings

If you are only facing this issue in certain apps, then you should check the app settings. You might have accidentally muted the app and this cannot be controlled with the volume rocker. Check the audio settings in the app to make sure that this is not the case.

7. Reset Your Settings

If you still cannot find out what’s causing this issue, then you should reset all of your iPad settings to factory default. This will not wipe any pictures or messages.

  1. Launch Settings on your iPad.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down and tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset Settings.
  5. Confirm and that’s all there is to it.

8. Visit the Genius Bar

If nothing else on this list has worked, then a professional should take a look at it. Visit the nearest Genius Bar but you need to make an appointment beforehand. Check out this article: How to Make Genius Bar Appointment in 2 Minutes.
