Smartwatches have tons of different uses like tracking your health goals and controlling the music app. However, the notifications are the most important part of the smartwatch experience for me and I know it’s the same for a lot of users out there. You can ignore spam calls and check your messages without ever having to open your phone and it is very convenient. The Apple Watch is one of the best smartwatches in the market, but a few users have been reporting notification issues with their wearable. Is your Apple Watch not getting notifications? then you are reading the right article.
I am going to give you 5 solutions you can use to fix this issue and I will also help you figure out what went wrong with your device.
Ready? Let’s get started.
Why Can’t You Recieve Your Notifications?
Usually, Apple Watches show missed notifications when you swipe down from the watch face. This doesn’t work sometimes. There are several reasons for this issue to crop up. However, if you are a new Apple Watch user, you have to remember 3 things:
- Apple Watch will not get notifications if it’s locked.
- You won’t get notification alerts when you’re not wearing the Apple Watch.
- The Apple Watch will not get notifications while you are using the phone.
The issue can be caused by connectivity problems, software glitches, pairing issues, improper settings, or hardware problems. Whatever the issue may be, we will cover all of them in the next section of this article.
How to Fix and Start Getting Notifications on Apple Watch?
I have scoured the Internet for the best solutions for this issue. Try these methods out and I guarantee that you will be able to receive your notifications again. Before we start, check whether the Apple Watch is unlocked or not. If it is locked, you will see a lock icon on the watch face. Simply unlock it to receive notification alerts.
1. Check the Connection Between Devices
If your watch isn’t connected to the phone, then you won’t get any notifications. To check the connection, all you have to do is swipe up from the watch face to open up the Control center. If your devices are disconnected, you will see a red cross, a red iPhone, or a WiFi icon.
To fix this, make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone and the Apple Watch is within range. Also, make sure that the Airplane mode is turned off on the smartwatch. If the devices are still disconnected, then restart your iPhone and Apple Watch. You can restart your Apple Watch by holding the side button for a few seconds and dragging the Power Off slider. Press and hold the side button again until you see the Apple logo.
If you still can’t get the devices connected, then you will have to unpair and pair them again.
- On the Apple Watch, tap Settings> General> Reset> Erase All Content and Settings.
- Open up the Watch app on the iPhone and tap my watch.
- Tap on your watch and then tap on the “i” icon next to it.
- Tap Unpair Apple Watch and confirm.
- Pair the devices again and you should be getting your notification alerts again.
2. Check Internet Connection
If your phone doesn’t get any third-party notifications, then the Apple Watch won’t get them either. Check your router for issues. You can also try turning the Airplane mode on and off. If that doesn’t work, then restart your phone. You can also try resetting the network settings if your phone fails to connect to the Internet. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
3. Check the Do Not Disturb Mode
The Do Not Disturb mode is a nice feature that lets users ignore notifications during meetings and such. However, sometimes people can forget to turn off and this can result in missed notifications. Whenever this setting is turned on, you will be able to see a crescent moon icon on your watch face.
To turn it off, all you have to do is swipe up from the watch face to open the Control center and then tap on the crescent moon icon to turn it off.
4. Turn Off Cover to Mute
Turning off this feature has worked well for some users in fixing the Apple Watch not getting notifications bug. To turn off Cover to Mute, all you have to do is follow these steps:
- Open up the Watch app on your phone.
- Tap Sounds & Haptics.
- Disable Cover to Mute.
- Check if you are getting notification alerts on your watch. You can then enable the feature if you want to.
5. Turn Off Wrist Detection
If the infrared sensor on your Apple Watch is damaged, then the Wrist Detection feature will hinder the notification alerts. This sensor is used to detect your wrist and make sure that you are wearing the watch. Like I mentioned earlier, if the Apple Watch thinks that you are not wearing the watch, it will not show the notifications.
- Open up the Watch app on the iPhone.
- Tap Passcode.
- Scroll down and disable Wrist Detection.
That’s all there is to it folks. If you were not getting notifications on your Apple Watch, then I hope that you found this article helpful. If you have any doubts or suggestions, please let me know in the comments section down below and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
